Pat Lawrence:
Pat has resided in Central Oregon for over twenty years. A major focus
in Pat’s life is her love of watercolor painting. Her work is showing in the
Redmond airport and other locations across Central Oregon. She also enjoys reading
and horseback riding.

Ann Malkin: Ann has lived in Central Oregon for
30 years and has been an active supporter of libraries since the mid-1990s when
she worked on the campaigns to establish the Deschutes Public Library District and
pass the bond issue to build the Bend Public Library. She was a founding board member
of the Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar program.

Board. Member of the Library District Budget Committee. Board member and past president
of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation and past member of the Bend Library Advisory
Council.
Education: B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oregon (1974).

Ray Miao:
Ray was born in China and moved to the United States when he was three years old.
His father worked for the United Nations and was the Director of Intern Programs.
Ray had a career in cancer research and business development. He is the Volunteer
State President of AARP Oregon. Ray is a member of the Nature Printing Society
and creates plant and fish prints (Gyotaku). Ray and his wife Chris have lived in
Central Oregon since 1991. They enjoy gardening, bird watching, canoeing, traveling
and agility training with their Corgi dog, Toomii.

Mary Beth Pearl-Gent: Beth was born in Florida and raised in southern
Illinois. Her mother was a school teacher and inspired Beth to follow suit.
She became a language arts and social studies teacher and a school librarian.
Beth worked as a teacher librarian for more than 25 years and is now an educational
consultant for K-12 language arts, social studies, and school library curriculum.
She resides with her husband, Harry Gent, on some acreage near Sisters and appreciates
the beautiful landscapes of Central Oregon. She is an avid reader and enjoys
quilting and traveling.

Previous Occupation: Beth began her career teaching language arts and social
studies at Spencer Butte Junior High School in Eugene, Oregon. Her first employment
as a school librarian was in Fair Oaks and Citrus Heights, California. From
1980-1996, Beth served as Library Media Specialist at Crook County Middle School
in Prineville, and at High Desert Middle and Buckingham Elementary schools in Bend.
She retired from the Bend-La Pine School District as Program Developer for Library
Media Services and Social Studies in 2002.

George Riser:
George was born in Baker City, OR to a mining engineer and a teacher of a one-room
schoolhouse. He was the only boy of four children. He has lived in the Sunriver
Area for the past ten years. George served as the project manager for the
new Sunriver Area Public Library and was a founding member of the Sunriver Area
Library Board. When he is not busy with library duties, he enjoys golf, tennis,
cross-country skiing, stain-glass work, wood carving, and oil painting.
